Imagine being forced to flee your home because of a war, separated from your children, and unable to reunite for three years. This is the nightmare that the Qasami family experienced fleeing Afghanistan.

At the airport, the family was told they could only take three of their five children. Heartbroken, they decided to stay together - but their two oldest children (8 and 10) insisted on staying with grandparents, expecting to follow soon.

Weeks turned into years before the family was finally reunited. During that time, Welcome Neighbor STL supported the family with family partners and an ESL tutor. Three years later, the children arrived - just two days before U.S. borders closed to refugees.

The Qasamis are finally together again, grateful for the community that stood with them through their long separation.

Welcome Neighbor STL relies on support from people like you to support refugee families like the Qasami's.
