Breaking Bread, Building Belonging

We recently hosted a Supper Club where sisters Farida Faizi and Freshta Wafa prepared a beautiful Afghan luncheon for 60 guests, showing how food can turn neighbors into community.

Farida and Freshta, were delighted to prepare their favorite Afghan dishes that they had learned from their mother back in Kabul.

They served the 5 dishes alongside their husbands and children and were warmly welcomed by the guests.

While the guests were eating, Farida and Fraidoon shared a bit about their lives in Afghanistan, their new lives in St Louis, and the support they have received from Welcome Neighbor STL.

90% of the proceeds from a Supper Club meal go to the refugee and immigrant chefs. The other 10% goes toward food, utensils, etc.

The event was hosted by the Women of Welcome at Greentree Community Church. The local chapter leader, Brandy MIller, also shared how opening her home to a newly arrived Afghan family became a life-changing experience. The family lived with them for several months.
