Family Partner Program
Family Partner’s walk with their family for their first year in the US. The goal of our Family Partnering program is self-sufficiency for the refugee family and lasting friendship between the refugee family and the family partners.
What Family Partners Do:
Build friendships and community
Family Partners volunteers walk with their refugee family for their first year in the US. The goal of our Family Partnering program is self-sufficiency for the refugee family and lasting friendship between the refugee family and the family partners.
Family Partners help advocate for their refugee family’s needs. This may include contacting Welcome Neighbor to request household items, calling food pantries to ask about specific food availability, or helping families access other local resources.
Support Cultural Adjustment
Family Partners help explain American cultural norms and everyday systems to ease the transition to life in the U.S. This can include accompanying families on shopping trips, showing them where to buy groceries, explaining how to schedule and attend medical appointments, and answering day-to-day questions.
Help Navigate Local Systems and Services This may include public transportation, school, etc.
Family Partners assist families in navigating social and public services in the St. Louis area, such as public transportation, schools, and community resources. A Welcome Neighbor social worker is also available to provide additional guidance and professional support as needed.
Enjoy celebrating and leisure activities
Welcome Neighbor plans activities throughout the year for refugee families and their family partners. This may include soccer games, ice skating, the winter party, etc.
Many families also enjoy celebrating holidays and birthdays together.
We would love for you to join our family partner volunteer team!
